Senior portrait sessions have changed greatly since I was a high school senior. Way back when, we didn't go to a photo studio for a senior session; we had our picture taken in the high school gymnasium.
We put on our leisure suit, tied our foot-wide tie, polished our platform shoes and combed our wing backs until they were perfectly feathered. We sat stiffly in front of a sky blue background while the photographer twisted and contorted our appendages into an awkward pose. Twelve shutter clicks later we were set free.
What seemed like months later, we carefully studied the twelve paper proofs to select our favorite pose. We ordered one 8x10 for our home, two 5x7s for the Grandparents and some wallets for someones refrigerator.
Today, senior photo sessions are much different. They are fun, entertaining and as unique as the Seniors themselves. We really enjoy meeting and working with the students. It's great fun creating the images they hold in their imaginations. For many, it is a chance to convey their identity, talents, dreams and passions.
We encourage the seniors to bring several changes of clothes, their favorite music and a friend or two. Frivolity and silliness are not tolerated...they are expected! Creating great images should be fun. The session usually takes two to three hours. We shoot outdoors and in the studio. Throughout the session, we preview the images on our studio monitors. This helps us make sure we create "the look".
There are a lot of great photographic products to choose from now. Aside from the traditional photo album, there are press printed books, coffee table books, library bound books and spiral bound books. Their favorite photos can be printed on statuettes, posters, t-shirts, puzzles, mouse pads, coasters, key chains, luggage tags, purses, tote bags, jewelry, post cards, trading cards and more.
Here is a sample of some recent sessions.
With all Senior sessions booked before the end of September, we will include an 11x14 print and a set of 18 wallet size photos.

Have you ever known a child who doesn't like to put on a costume? It doesn't seem to matter what time of year it is.
Our four year old daughter loves to play dress up anytime. Much of it seems to be practice for Halloween night.
Every week she announces that THIS is the costume she is wearing for trick or treat. Some of her creations are quite clever and cute. Others are .... a reminder that she just turned four :)

Regardless, she always grins ear to ear when she is dressed up. What child doesn't? Some of our favorite photos are children dressed up as their favorite character (gallery link).
On October 25th, 27th and 31st we will be hosting our first CLICK OR TREAT mini-sessions. Our studio will be dedicated to capturing great images of your children in their favorite costume.
- No appointment needed
- No session fee
- As many images as we can capture in a fifteen minute session
- On-line proof gallery and ordering
- Specially priced print packages and photo novelties (mugs, statuettes, etc.)
Please mark your calenders and plan to join us for a day of fun. Pass the word to your friends and family too.

Leslie and Tann,
We were so excited to open your email to see our proofs. WOW - we love every single one. It is going to be very difficult to chose our favorites.
As a mother of three boys (11,9, and 6) getting "formal portraits" has never been easy. Especially when we decided to throw in two cousins and grandparents!
This was the best experience we've had in 11 years!
My 11 year old even said what a cool "warehouse" you had. Everything from your flexibility with our last minute scheduling to the way you handled a variety of ages (4 through 11) all in one sitting to the creative poses and photographic effects.
You are running a class act. I will definitely spread the word in our neighborhood and throughout the community.
Kudos to you!!

Celebrate your birthday at Bluehat Studios
Some friends approached us about hosting a birthday party in our studio. We liked the idea and decided to give it a whirl. After hosting two parties, we are happy to say that they have been a great success.
Prior to the party we created a custom invitation using a photo we took of the birthday honoree. The theme of the invitation matched the party's theme. The example shown featured a "Party like a Star" theme. There were bright lights, the latest fashions, their favorite pop music and the PAPARAZZI!

On the day of the event the host greeted the party guests and invited them into the studio to create a custom photo frame. A supply of frames, beads, jewels, feathers and glue were set out on work tables in the studio.

While the guests were creating their masterpieces, we invited each guest to step over to the photography backdrop so we could take three or four photos of each person. After completing the individual photos we asked all the guests to pose for a group photo.

As soon as the photos were snapped and the picture frames were finished, the guests moved into the gallery for cake, ice cream and refreshments.
While the guests were eating and opening presents we quickly processed the images. Each guest was given a 4x6 photo of themselves for their new picture frame. We also included a wallet size photo of the group photo for each guest.
After the party, we created custom thank you cards for the birthday honoree. The cover of the thank you card featured a photo of the host holding a poster size photo of the group photo.

The party host suggested that we post the photos in our online ordering gallery. Several guests ordered additional prints of their children. Everyone seemed to have a great time. We did too.
Based on the positive feedback we received, we decided that hosting birthday parties for the seven to ten year old set will be a service offered by Bluehat Studios.
We are happy to tailor each party to fit your individual need. There are several choices nearby for food and beverages or you can provide your own refreshments.
Our studio is conveniently located adjacent to The Loop Pizza and Grill and Dunkin Donuts / Baskin Robbins. The Loop has great pizza and food. The restaurant was recently voted Cary's Most Kid Friendly and can easily accommodate large parties of children. Dunkin Donuts / Baskin Robbins features yummy ice cream and creates great ice cream cakes. They can decorate it especially for you. We can assist with ordering and pick up for you. If you need a custom made cake to match your party theme, our good friend Beth Hollis creates beautiful cakes. Her ability to create a cake for almost any theme is amazing.
